Our tools define leverage as the difference between a player’s public exposure and their probability of being the top scorer at their position, this is reflected in the Boom/Bust Tool for NFL DFS. Positively leveraged plays are those for which the public ownership exposures are projected lower than the probability of a player posting a "boom" score. Negatively leveraged plays are the players who may be projected well, but are owned by a larger portion of the field than their likelihood of success.
Leverage is not an automatic play or don’t play number, and the utility varies from sport to sport, but we typically want to seek out highly projected players or stacks that also have positive leverage.
